the world turns and churns but is different within the eye of the beholder
war is fought and bled on two sides but written by the fortunate soldier
let us not judge those until we wear out their souls of leather
judge us on how we fair during the good times and nasty weather
when our will is tested and we stand in the face of temptation
our spirit will come alive, our true self will face any confrontation
look through my eyes see my paradigm of this place and time
let loose the gavel of judgement sentence punishment for my crime
but understand me first and trust my faith and the forgiving plea
for I am the master of my being, the captain of my soul, I am Me
with faith in my God and loyalty to my heart, I look to tomorrow
each new sunrise brings new smiles, new challenges to follow
I'll fight to find my way, carve out my path and clear the way
to my new better tomorrow, my future that will be my brand new day
With a renewed energy I am fired into the front lines of todays fight
My God in my spirit, my family behind me, no man can stop my flight
I will rise to the top, rise up over any challenge, find a way
my road is clear, focus on point, I will succeed no matter what they say

My Ideal Woman.....feel free to apply if you meet said requirements.
My Ideal woman.....
now I have thought about this a lot so pardon the detail. When you've had no girlfriends and just hook ups and dates here and there you get to really figure out what you like so here we go. 5'5" to 5'7", brown hair( I don't mind blonde), more towards the auburn side compared to a darker hue. A decent tan, nothing like mine, more of the italian olive almost. Legs and butt are essential, BUT and I can not stress this enough, no huge huge huge ass. I want an athletic butt. Green or brown eyes, blue is to cliche, but a grey would be really cool. Speaking of athletic butt she is most definitely an athlete. An avid runner and loves to play tennis, swim, and occasionally bowl. Doesn't play golf, since that is my thing, and doesn't mind play a couple sets of tennis while I play 18 holes with Dad, Dom and Henry. She enjoys similar music as me, but hates heavy metal and hardcore music, this allows me something to listen to when I am in a bad mood and her recognize my mood. Also it gives me a good way to escape from everyone when I am working out or angry driving. Likes art and when I am corny romantic. Enjoys screwdrivers, vodka tonics or white wine. Likes the colors red and midnight blue to offset my like for lighter blues and yellows. Can't cook "professionally" so we split that, but I do most of it, although she does like learning how to and learns from my mom so of her best recipes. Loves reading and pushes our kids to do the same. Dad owns a boat and likes taking us sailing. Likes watching sports and semi follows basketball and baseball, but only really enjoys the playoffs. Thinks a framed Patrick Ewing jersey does not belong on the wall in the bedroom so moves it to my office. Loves to drive fast and just drive in general. Enjoys spending a saturday wine tasting, watching the kids soccer games or going to the beach....as much as a saturday tilling the garden. Wears sandals almost year round and doesn't care what people think of it. Enjoys walking Ewing, our female black lab, at night after work. Also doesn't care that I want to buy two more dogs that are enormous, either two more labs named Riley and Starks, or a German Shepherd named Rey and a caucasian sheepdog named ChewBacca. Head strong, fierce, and independent, loving, devoted to our family, portrays the perfect matriarch. Drives a Volvo SUV and rather enjoys it. College educated, steady job. Loves my parents....and the fact they visit all the time to spoil our kids. Most of all she loves me for all my quirks and is super family oriented. Understands that love is about faith, compromise, communication, and comfort. I'd rather her not like the Yankees but I could live with it....you do have to compromise. BUT!!!!! If she likes the Miami Heat or Real Madrid its over I don't care how perfect her tooshie is

Fox Hollow Lane Isnt Alright
One of my favorite songs + events of the past month have inspired a blog post. The song is "The Kids Aren't Alright" by the Offspring and the events of course is being bored sitting around in the middle of Mali with nothing to do but think. Anyway, the song is about the lead singer of the band going back to the place he grew up and seeing how much its changed and how crappy it is now. Recently one of my old neighbors passed away and it really made me think about the old neighborhood, good ole Fox Hollow Lane. When I was living there the world seemed to revolve around F.H.L. nothing else mattered and that was my whole world. There were about 8-10 families that shared our dead end and called our street home. That means there were about 15 of us kids that called FHL paradise.
When we were young our future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat
The future was ours for the taking, who wanted to be a doctor, a professional soccer player, an X-Men character, nothing could stand in our way. The tides of time were ours to control and the future was but a step away under our running steps. The old neighborhood was always alive with parties and activities, I remember distinctly playing in the street till 9pm during the summer waiting for the street lights to come on. Improv soccer games on my front lawn that were never very organized. Playing fantasy games that seemed to be saturated with the idea of child immortality. No one could take us down, we were like the coos rostra, the medallion, a family. My paradigm at that time was that this was what living was, and brother living was good….
Now our neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives
Driving past the neighborhood now is like going into a DMZ. There is maybe one or two houses left that still resemble what photographs are left in my memory. People moved away, new people moved in, lives change, we all grew up, and what really sucks is that no one told us it was time to grow up. Just one day you wake up your 23 years old living in a 3rd world country, thinking you can make some sort of difference when really your just running from responsibility when you get a phone call that some kid who you knew for 5 years (barely) who actually did accomplish something has died. How can one little street swallow so many lives?
Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot
Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality
Now you look back and you find out what your dream was…..a dream, and that reality is a bitch and she bites. So it turns out my neighborhood was nothing of what I thought it was and here are some reasons why: One kid tried to kill his little brother, one used to molest his little sister, one parent used to molest kids, one kid got a girl pregnant way early, one girl came out after her mom ditched the family, and then you have the fat kid who all throughout childhood gets made fun of and picked on. Of you know he just moves away, makes something of himself and then the world finds it necessary to take him away….the cruelest dream really is reality. Fairytales only existed when you want them too and even then they take work.
Chances blown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
We look to hold onto memories, but we also want to alter memories to make them memories. Sometimes the memory we created is better than the memory we created. It is hard to see fragile lives and our shattered dreams. BUT we all have the strength within to take shattered dreams and put the pieces together to make new ones. Furthermore when we lose the strength within ourselves to do such we can always find ways. I look to God, I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Phil 4:13). Really this post isn't about anything more than a thought or to, maybe a mini eulogy for my old neighborhood. Viktor Frankel once said,

Some writings of mine.
If you have any titles for these short thought/poems go ahead and let me know
Untitled
What is left of this
hopelessly romantic
heart? I shuffle to
gather its tattered
pieces, but as sand
in the wind, the
sands of my broken
heart pass with the
breeze and time eternal
Untitled 2
The canvas lay wet, your memory lingers
each brush stroke took with a piece of you
your life is my art a poets poem, the singers song.
You live forever in the words I hear
every day. This crazy world makes
love hard to find. Through your songs,
words and art I find love, our love
Untitled 3
Gaze stuck as if time finally learned to stop
With time at a halt I have the eternity I need
to love and appreciate ever last bit of you.
I want to fast forward to the parts when we
say "I do" and "Its a __", but don;t let this moment
pass away. I could lay awake silently dreaming
what our lives could be like. All of this would be
easier than facing the chance that you don't love
me back. We could elope and have a grand
ceremony at the same time. Tell me what you need
and I'll provide. Just don't ask me to unpause
this moment or else like your love it might fade away.
Untitled 4
Simple silhouette cut outs of our love dance about my dreams
How, I ask, have I been bestowed with such easy pleasure
Another day in the house of the never setting sun
I awaken to the bright smile and loving eyes of my dreams
but, they have turned to reality, only a child facing his first love
truly knows the butterflies in my stomach, uncaged at each thought
and sight of you. Only a child on christmas knows the sheer
joy I feel every morning I experience as I unwrap the day
to find you there. But no one knows the love and devotion
I hold for you, as no one has ever had a truer love than I.
Untitled 5
Our dreams rest in far off places under a
sunlit blue sky. We dream of fending off those
we love from the once sleeping evils. Beyond
the iron gates of our reality lie our dreams.
An iron gate locked to protect us from change,
rejection and failure. But hidden in your
rehearsed march, living in each thudding
vibration of the drum is the key to the sunlit
sky, the moon filled night dotted with stars.
Dreams are your imagination unleashed, if we
were taught to harness it during the day who says
you could not swim in your oceanic dreams.
Some say attaining a dream is a miracle
I say its just a little hard work and faith
Untitled 5
Yesterday the sky seemed to bleed blue
yet the sun hid, so not to disturb you
each cloud held a momen of your beauty
as if making it eternal was their life duty
Each breeze that passes, your reintroduced to me
your scent i breathe your smile i long to see
I'd trade all my life to feel your warmth as I sleep
no price can show my desire, here is my heart to keep
let us share each sunrise take hold of each night
breathe in each moment, follow our own light
Untitled 6
Your better off without it she says.
But our experience define our current adaptation.
Its still still a part of me. A painful memory now.
But the smiles I endured during those times I would not
give away at any cost. Suffering and heartache, but I danced my dance
and I learned from it. Our past is as important as tomorrow for without
yesterday we could have no idea what tomorrow may behold. We can not change what we
had, can not take back the fights or the time spent thinking.
We can only now cherish them and hope one day that we find someone we know that
in 50 years we will look back and see a continual smile that still graces our faces.
Journal Entry Dated September 10 2010
Today I killed my first scorpion. Why is this inspiration to start journaling? Well I have no idea. I think it was the odor of supreme Darwinism that stained my house after the murder. You see scorpions come in two styles: big claws and not a lot of poison, and little claws and a lot of poison. This one was a tweener and didn't seem to have really strong pincers. Now most creatures in Africa would know to stay away, if pissed off this little guy would mean business. But what no one told this sneaky lil SOB is that all the poison in the world is going to stop a size 12 rubber sandal connected to the foot of a 165 pound human being. After sweeping his dead carcass out of my house I started to think about how this could be a metaphor for how the developed countries of the world see the developing countries on earth. As animals that have simply outlived their enemies and have learned to coexist with their surroundings. Meanwhile "we" come in and smash their entire culture seeing it as primitive without trying to understand why. Maybe that scorpion was going to kill the stupid flies or massacre the mouse population currently living in my roof. I'll never know because I see scorpion and think of every Discovery Channel special I ever saw hung over in college and start stamping. Also because I think well, I know a guy who knows a guy, who stung once and almost died. Just like someone who uses the same 6 degrees of separation to say he knew a guy who came to Africa and was almost eaten by the locals. We can not assume or judge until we have been. This may not apply to fundamental science, boiling water does not need an everyday test to know that it is super hot. But humans are one of the most complex things on earth, our lives are SO meaningful that they are actually meaningless. There is no grand aha! at the end just a hope and prayer we did our best and taught our mistakes and subsequent solutions to the next generation. So i might still kill the next scorpion I see, but first I'll wonder and then I won't judge, just kill. Because this is still Darwinism, and heavy rubber sandals will always win over insects.
Ordinary People
Runaway from the pain of endless "being"
bindings of a semi-charmed life of seemless bliss
I'm left without a surprise, left in motion
an endless turning wheel, I feel a planetary torment
when each moment I open my eyes, I see yesterday
worst yet, I think I see Tomorrow.
"Home is the feeling that without words, without thought, you can breathe an easy sigh and the world seems right"
In other news I am 3/4 done with my first book that I am writing and started my second already. When I am finished with my first I hope to get it edited and after I can some how but copyrights on the manuscript I will post it for review.

Thoughts
This blog will be a selection of some of my journal entries I have been making.
Sept 13th
Today was a perfect day for the stars to come out in force. We had a huge rain storm last night until early this morning and whenever that happens it stays clear for a couple days and tonight was no expection. The stars look amazing; like snowflakes stuck in time. The sky looked like Jackson Pollack took white paint to a giant piece of black felt. Truly a place where the streets have and need no name. The most astounding effect it had on me aside from not having to use my flashlight to get home was the sense of understanding. Understanding of my flawed thoughts on relationships and love. I thought love only could be found when you applied for AARP and relationships were antiquated and always ended. But sitting under these stars, absorbing each morsel of romance that dripped from the sky, I understood. These moments you live for, but live to share with someone. What good is life if everyday you live it you have no one to share it with. Each tear, smile. and shooting star. Love is when two friends know that their lives will be devoted to making one another smile. Love is when two people sacrifice themselves to create the singular entity of a couple. It took me 23 years of one night stands, relationship rules, and broken hearts, mine included, to see this. Love is not a fairy tale hidden sparsely in the wind swept never never land. Love is here and now, it is sharing moments of our lives with those who genuinely care. Marriage is legal, love is eternal. They say it grows with time and I agree. I see love like the stars something everyday, but one day you look and something new is looking back at you. Its cast complicated and on the surface the same across the board. But deep down love varies and with each person it burns different. I know now that love is not a prancing unicorn, love is the common animal, hidden within normalcy but each holding its own unique beauty.

Robert Palmer taught us how to be Addicted to Love
but I think sublime said it best when they said....love is all I got.
